8 Best Vegan Clothing Brands: Cruelty-Free & Stylish

Are you moving towards a cruelty-free wardrobe but struggling to find the right vegan clothing brands for your style and budget?

Fret not: it no longer needs to involve dozens of open tabs.

I’ve rounded up my current favourites, with direction on how to easily find more.

So, jump to my list of the best vegan clothing brands, or if you’re still new to this, start with this simple overview of what makes something truly vegan (there’s more to it than leather!) so that you always know what to avoid.

What clothing is vegan?

Clothing is considered vegan when it doesn’t involve any animal products, and animals weren’t used during its production either.

So, vegan clothing brands avoid obvious non-vegan materials like leather, fur, silk, wool, and down, but also all kinds of animal by-products (for example, some dyes come from crushed insects, and buttons can be made from horns, hooves, or even beaks).

It’s also important to keep in mind that ‘vegan’ doesn’t automatically mean ‘cruelty-free’ or ‘eco-friendly’. For example, plenty of fast fashion brands sell vegan products made by garment workers in modern slavery conditions or using extremely polluting leather alternatives.

Now, there are lots of fashion brands offering vegan items or collections, but for this article, I prioritised fully vegan clothing brands (at least, at the time of writing it).

8 best vegan clothing brands for a more ethical and cruelty-free wardrobe

Luckily, more and more fashion companies are now vegan, but here are some pretty cool online stores you can start from—including premium and more affordable vegan clothing brands.

1. Reistor - vegan clothing made of hemp

While they also have a few Tencel and organic cotton pieces, Reistor specialises in hemp clothes, one of the most sustainable fabrics. Either way, they’re always vegan!

They also use creative materials like coconut fibre for cuffs and corn for their packaging.

As for the style of their clothes, most of them are minimalist, monochrome (including bold colours), and timeless, but they have several pieces with prints, patterns, and eye-catching details, too.

2. Pitod - genderless vegan clothing

This vegan clothing brand prioritises garments and accessories for all genders

Pitod uses sustainable materials like GOTS-certified cotton and recycled polyester to reduce waste.

As if that weren’t cool enough, they plant a tree for each order and neutralise their emissions with carbon credits!

3. The Driftwood Tales - versatile vegan clothes

Perfect for people who “let themselves be carried away by the flow”, most of the clothes by this vegan fashion brand are versatile everyday pieces with plenty of smart-casual options, too.

They tend to use organic cotton and recycled materials, and their production is entirely fairtrade.

4. Mud Jeans - best vegan jeans brand

While their range includes other types of garments too, the name says it all!

Mud Jeans uses organic cotton and follows a circular fashion model. If you send your old jeans back, they’ll recycle them and spin them into new yarn.

Definitely one of the best vegan clothing brands when it comes to jeans and denim! And if you’re thinking, “But isn’t ALL denim vegan?” (fair question)... most denim jeans have brand patches made of leather. Mud Jeans don’t.

5. Lafaani - one-of-a-kind and premium vegan clothes

Luxury vegan clothing

The name of this circular Indian brand means “immortality”. That’s because Lafaani sells entirely handcrafted products, immortalising the labour of local artisans through timeless pieces.

This makes them premium products, so it can be considered a luxury vegan clothing brand.

Their garments are high-quality and made to last, and they involve natural fabrics like ethically sourced cotton.

Lafaani also has a much lower environmental and carbon footprint than brands relying on bigger-scale productions. So, by choosing to support this vegan clothing brand, you’ll bag yourself some items that are cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and give work to a community of artisans.

(Full transparency: they sometimes use mother-of-pearl buttons)

6. NAE Vegan - all kinds of vegan shoes

This brand is a proper pioneer when it comes to vegan shoes: they started way back in 2008.

They prioritise the most eco-friendly vegan leather alternatives, like substitutes made from apples, corn, or pineapple.

And with their wide range—sandals, boots, heels, trainers, loafers…—I’d be extremely surprised if you don’t find the right shoes for you!

7. Solari Milano - classy vegan shoes

This is a beautiful made-in-Italy brand specialising in classic and elegant vegan shoes, like loafers, cap toes, and oxfords.

They reduce their carbon footprint by keeping their entire production within a 500km range, and they prioritise eco-friendly materials such as recycled rubber and leather substitutes made from corn or organic cotton.

8. Votch - best vegan watches

Let’s not forget about accessories! Watches, in particular, often involve leather.

Luckily, new brands are coming up with cruelty-free alternatives too, and Votch is one of them.

They swapped it for alternatives like AppleSkin and Piñatex.
